I'm sitting here with my new kitten[1] on my lap. While I was reading
other things online she was half-asleep, but for some reason the sight
of afp has her watching the screen in fascination! I think she wants
me to do a delurk post for her :-)

[1] Ella, ten weeks old, tabby and white, probably going to be
semi-longhair, very beautiful :-)

Dancing rodents for getting a new owner [1] :-))

Speaking as someone who recently took a kitten into his home (Odin, blue
british shorthair, now 4 months old), you might want to point out to her
that the cursor is not something you can grab, scratch or kill. And that
paws are not ideally suited to type anything.

(at this point I have to delete from my post a number of A's and | 's
(didn't know how to type those myself, smart cat) and turn of capslock
again)

My cat is jealous of the time I spend on the computer. He refrains from
chasing the mouse, quite happy to just roll on the keyboard. He's a
big cat, so there isn't much keyboard left over!

My new kitty, Captain Mal, likes to jump on the keyboard. He'll do laps,
even, and insists on passing over the keys each time.

I know I mentioned him a few days ago, but there are pics on my blog.

Awwww!

Delurk greetings from our 2 new arrivals - both just 3 months now
Sooty - almost completely black with white star at throat
Sarah - um ... Dalmatian kitten - easiest way to describe
a white with black splodges kitten. She's got the cutest face
ever - looks like she's wearing an eyepatch!

Considering her love of shoulders we should have named her Polly ;-)

They are both great PC lovers and have added their own special

They seem especially fond of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The Sith Lords and have had many a happy hour chasing space

He's lovely! And he looks like a lively little chap too :-)
Ella's just been chasing her first fly, making clicking noises at it,
and then, when she briefly managed to catch it for a moment, running
away and hiding in her sleeping-box! Which reminds me of both Sasha,
the beautiful persian cat we lost last year at age seventeen, and also
one of the werewolves in Family Bites who was at least partly based on
Sasha.

Is it a British Blue? Or possibly a Russian Blue? We once had one who looked
like that, but he was a stray who just turned up starving and sick on our
doorstep, so we never knew his pedigree. Our son, three years old at the
time, named him Bluecat, which seemed fair enough so it stuck. He was a
particularly nice cat, except where other toms were concerned.

I thought British Shorthair was a nice way of saying Common or Garden
Moggie, and they're usually tabby (silver, ginger or brown, with or without
white), tortoiseshell, calico, black, white, black-and-white or muted
versions of any of these.

That's just altogether unfair. Now I find myself, for the first time in
quite a while indeed, wishing I could get a cat. I suspect that a house
with two dogs (who have never experienced felines) and an
almost-two-year-old is not an ideal setting for either a kitten or an
adopted full-grown cat, unfortunately.

Nope, British Shorthair is a Recognised Breed, for them as
care about such things (all our cats have been moggies).
Although, having been based on UK moggies, it *does* come in
all those colours.

I only get seven seconds, and then it stops. I have a feeling there's
supposed to be more.

A friend of mine had two British Blues. Moggies they were not and they
had the pedigree papers to prove it.

It's born out of experience: if you are going to waggle a toy around in
front of a cat, you should take care to put as much distance as possible
between the toy and your fingers. Otherwise you suffer...a lot

So: a piece of plastic attached to an elastic band (if he catches it and
lets go for just a second, he has to chase again) attached to a monkey (so
he gets used to chasing anything with four libs, including librarians)
